The Big Three Questions on Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal questions

Hair removal looks different for all of us. It’s a very personal preference what hair to remove, how to remove it, or indeed whether to remove it at all.

With the recent lockdowns, many people’s hair removal routines may have changed. Those who enjoy visiting a salon or clinic to help with hair removal will have suddenly found that they have had to do it themselves at home. Some may have given up their hair removal routines altogether!

Here at Smooth Laser Clinic, we are obviously extremely passionate about giving men and women the option of effective, affordable, permanent hair reduction and removal.

So as we approach the re-opening of salons and the emergence back into normal life, we thought we’d address the three common laser hair removal questions we get asked regularly. How exactly does laser hair removal work, are there any side effects and how long does it last for?

How does laser hair removal actually work?

Our medical-grade laser machine removes unwanted hair by directing concentrated light into the hair follicle. This turns to heat and damages the hair at the root, which inhibits its ability to grow whilst not disrupting or damaging the surface of the skin.

The light from the laser is attracted to the hair’s pigment, which makes this method of hair removal extremely accurate as well as comfortable.

Are there any side effects of laser hair removal?

In comparison to other hair removal methods, any potential side effects from laser hair removal are minimal. Most clients find the process virtually painless. You may be interested in reading our blog comparing the pros and cons of alternative hair removal methods with laser.

The skin in the areas that are treated may have some mild heat and redness. This can be easily managed with aloe vera gel which will soothe any redness and calm sensitivity by drawing out the heat. You should also keep the area cool and hydrated, as well as avoid any activities that increase your body temperature like saunas, the gym or sunbathing.

Our expertly trained therapists will take you through the entire process and ensure that any side effects are kept to an absolute minimum.

How long does laser hair removal last?

Laser hair removal is the only hair removal method that offers permanent hair reduction. You should notice a difference from the very first treatment. Over a course of appointments, the hair will grow back thinner and lighter.

Our expert therapists will tailor the treatment plan to your skin and hair removal preferences so that once the course is completed, you will have achieved optimum results.

Once your course is completed, we recommend 1-2 maintenance sessions per year to keep skin smooth and hair free for the long term.

We hope this will have answered the main questions you may have about laser hair removal. For more information, or to book a consultation, get in touch with us. We’d love to see you once we are back open in April!
